Short documentary | Not Rated | 1995
The rise and politically motivated fall of the Photo League (1936-1951)
"Slave Ship: The Testimony of the Henrietta Marie" is a documentary short commissioned for installation in a traveling exhibition: THE WRECK OF THE HENRIETTA MARIE, about the oldest slave ship wreck (1699) found off the coast of the U.S. featuring Dr. Cornel West of Harvard University. The film explores the history of the 1699 English slave ship, the oldest known slave ship wreck found off the coast of the U.S., using artifacts recovered from the site like iron shackles and trade goods. It serves to convey a tangible human perspective of the experiences of enslaved people on the ship.
